Antiques Plus

New Ulm, Minnesota

Antiques Plus was born in 1995 and spent its first fifteen years growing up on North Broadway in New Ulm, Minnesota.  Then, in the midst of its teen years, in 2009, it moved to its current location in the heart of the city, next to the Marketplatz Mall arch where it oversees the bustling downtown area from its perch on the corner of Minnesota and 1st North.

Antiques Plus is currently home to 24 quality dealers whose varied merchandise ranges from old to new, Victorian to mid-century modern, and includes everything from old bottles and vintage clothing to costume jewelry, collectible toys, new books, and most everything in between – with an especially nice mix of historic items from the local area.

For those unfamiliar with this quaint historic Minnesota city, New Ulm is located along the Minnesota River at the intersection of Highways 14, 15, 68, and 99 (about 30 miles northwest of Mankato, MN).  The original founding fathers of New Ulm were Germans who settled in the area beginning in 1854.

As a result of the area’s German heritage, Antiques Plus is home to an array of such cultural items as sauerkraut crocks, kraut cutters, empty (unfortunately) beer bottles, steins and mugs.  There are also cookbooks featuring German and other local cuisines.  On the fancy end of this culture there are lovely Bavarian, Prussian, and Japanese bowls that will allow the home-made bratwurst and sauerkraut enthusiast to serve their culinary creations in grand style!  And the kitchen merchandise dealers have casseroles and kettles to heat it up as well as aprons and table cloths to keep you and your kitchen table looking fantastic!

While waiting the several weeks needed to ferment the kraut a budding sauerkraut enthusiast can spend quality time at Antiques Plus finding just the right pieces to do a little interior decorating, either in the home or cabin. Or one could enlarge a collection from the array of vintage Ertl toys and collectible tractors and other farm implements or, depending on your taste for machinery, by hanging an “If it ain’t red, leave it in the shed” or one of the ever-popular yellow and green farm implement signs.  (You might even witness a lively “discussion” on the relative merits of the various makes and models of farm machinery!)   During (or just prior to) hunting season the well-appointed hunter would do well to check out the duck calls, shells, decoys, and other outdoors equipment.

At Antiques Plus the dealers spend time moving their spring/summer merchandise to the “other” closet and bringing out the fall/winter items (or visa-versa depending on the time of year).   In short, you’ll find that Antiques Plus is always in season!  So at the end of the day if you enjoy curling up with a good book or an old magazine and dreaming of good food, times past, and good times yet to come, Antiques Plus has got you covered – and we look forward to seeing you!
