Bell Tower Antiques
What do you do when your landlord gives you notice that your building has been sold and you have to be moved out in just two weeks?
That’s exactly what happened in October 2015 to the 20 plus dealers and the management at Bell Tower Antiques located in downtown Spicer, MN. They knew that it would happen eventually, as the church building they had occupied for the past 12 years was up for sale, but they never expected they’d have only two weeks to find a new location or face closing the business permanently.
As luck would have it however, there was a building located three blocks down the road, a former lefse factory that had closed, and the remodelers were just finishing the job of getting it ready to re-rent. It looked like a perfect location for a displaced Antiques Shop!
Tim Johnson, the owner of Bell Tower Antiques is a definite optimist and he notes that sometimes things work out for the best! The new location has great lighting, wide aisles and much better visibility and accessibility from the highway than the old church. It also boasts front door parking as well as a great high-visibility perch for their mascot – a 10-foot tall, chainsaw-carved, Grizzly Bear. And long-time manager Karen Heath notes that, so far, all of their many regular customers who’ve “re-found” them love the new location as well.
No matter where you’re coming from. An Antiques Road Trip to Bell Tower Antiques is definitely worth the drive. Inside the shop you'll find a wide array of antiques well displayed and easy to view. Each of the dealers has his or her own range of interests and passions for antiques, which makes for an amazing variety. You’ll find everything from Native American items to antique cast iron toys (as well as a large selection of farm toys), along with quality glassware, pottery, and jewelry. There’s furniture from traditional oak to Mid-Century Modern, to Cabin & Porch, and “Farm Primitive” items. Together this group of dealers prides themselves on being an "Antique" Store.
Bell Tower Antiques is located in central Minnesota right on Highway 23 in downtown Spicer. It’s a scant 10 miles north of Willmar – a short hour and half drive from the Twin Cities. Spicer is situated on the shore of beautiful Green Lake – a 5,000 acre lake with great fishing and a beautiful city park. It’s also right on the Glacial Lakes Bike Trail and in close proximity to Sibley State Park. The Spicer town celebration takes place during the 4th of July holiday and Bell Tower Antiques has become well-known for their long running 4th of July Antique Flea Market and Storewide Sale (which ran for 12 years at their previous location and which they intend to continue at their new location).
The dealers of Bell Tower Antiques invite you to stop in for a cup of fresh brewed coffee and a cookie or two while you browse through their store. They also note that there are several other antique stores and many small cafes, restaurants and coffee shops within 10 miles of Spicer so plan an Antiques Road Trip and come and spend the day!
